What is Drupal? (in 57 Seconds)

Video by Laura Scott at PINGV.

Why Drupal?

Drupal is a powerful and extensible open source web building platform. It is supported and maintained by a large group of developers, designers and users scattered all over the globe. Its robust blend of features can be readily extended, allowing for the creation of a range of websites from simple blogs to complex web applications. Drupal is a proven enterprise solution, powering prominent websites from www.whitehouse.gov to artist showcase sites for Sony BMG and Warner Brothers. Drupal has also found its place in higher education. The University of Delaware and Arizona State University have large deployments supporting hundreds of campus websites.

Drupal at HFCC

HFCC's Office of Data and Voice Communications has selected Drupal as our preferred platform for web development. As new websites are rolled out, each one has a similar underlying framework, but can be customized to provide a rich set of features unique to the needs of that department, committee, or college organization.

This allows each group to operate using specifically targeted tools. For example, Human Resources does not need FCC playlist tracking, WHFR Radio does not need to post recipes, and the 5101 Restaurant does not need tools for publishing job postings. What they all do need, however, is an environment that is easy to use and manage so that content can be posted without wasting a lot of valuable time dealing with the underlying technology.
